AI in the Medical Industry

AI seems to be everywhere. Teachers and professors fear their students will never write another paper again if the chatbots get much better. Depending on your generation and exposure to this technology, you’re either excited, confused, terrified, or all three. While I believe we are far from a Terminator reality, I also believe, just like any new technology, AI can seem intimidating when we don’t know much about it. In light of this, I decided to create this post and gather several links to articles and videos on how AI will be, and is already, affecting the medical industry.

As an overview of the items below, AI is currently being used for administrative tasks (scheduling and billing), diagnosis (image analysis), and Rx (drug dosage algorithms). In the Harvard article, you’ll see that “ChatGPT successfully passed the USMLE and can solve internal medicine case files,” which could assist doctors with diagnosis, treatment plans for patients, and much more.

As you can see, we’re on the edge of something big. Just as in every industry, AI will be much more than a helpful tool in the medical field. As the technology progresses and more medical professionals adopt it, the impact will be massive.
